Isle of Arran 1996 – The colour of this Arran is absolutely stunning. Straight away you can see the result of 20 full Years of ageing in not only an ex sherry butt, but the very first fill of this butt. Distilled in 1996, we thought 20 Years was the perfect age to bottle this single cask. Currently only available to buy through us at Bartels Whisky. A very exclusive and unusual bottling of a fine single malt. You won’t find many like this around that is for sure!

Arran 20yo 1996/2017 (51.3%, Highland Laird, Sherry Butt, Cask #1337, 520 Bts.)
Nose: Starts deep and fruity – late summer fruits. A lovely profile, mellow but full of flavours. Expanding wood.
For a few minutes it resembles a classic sherried Speysider as they made them a few decades ago.
A faint hint of pepper as well – and some leather. Fantastic development – a malt whisky for time travellers.
Taste: A very soft start, that explodes into fruity sweetness after a few seconds. Evolving into strong tannins.
Lots of development on the palate in a fairly short period of time – unfortunately the magic is gone in minutes.
Score: 87 points – which makes it my favourite Arran ever, I think. (Well, it was a sherry cask after all….)
