Isle of Jura Distillery History
With just one road, one pub and one distillery, Isle of Jura is a memorable distillery to visit. Only 200 people population so no wonder the deer outnumber the people. It was first built in in around 1810 by the Campbell’s, it was then rebuilt in 1884 and produced 64,000 gallons per year back then. It fell into ruin and was rebuilt in 1963. The whisky that was first produced at this distillery was peaty from character, this now differs considerably. If its peaty smoky whisky or of the sweeter kind this distillery sure has a fine range.
